Joan Fadayiro

Joan Fadayiro is a community organizer. She has participated in and led struggles to improve public education, resist police violence, contend for grassroots-led political power, and secure and improve long-term affordable housing.

Through her organizing, Joan recognized that many of the barriers to community participation stemmed from people's lack of access to quality jobs and ownership of their own labor. She acknowledges that our current movement has to give attention to people's present, material needs in order to grow. Thus, Joan co-founded the Cooperation for Liberation Study & Working Group to understand and build worker cooperatives as a tool for economic independence and self-determination in Black communities.

Cooperation for Liberation is a Black-centered collective from communities actively healing through different forms of oppression. We advance Black liberation by building a worker cooperative to meet cultural and material needs and growing the worker cooperative movement. We exchange knowledge & resources and foster space for community, joy, and solidarity.
