I'm a worker-owner with the Evanston Development Cooperative (EDC). We design and build energy-efficient, affordable housing with a local workforce and a racial equity lens. We primarily operate as a design-builder of accessory dwelling units (ADU)s for homeowners, as a housing solution for young families and older adults. Our multi-stakeholder cooperative seeks to change who decides the future cost, color, and shape of our neighborhoods, putting decision-making power back into our workers' and our residents' hands.

I was first introduced to the solidarity economy when researching participatory budgeting and Indigenous political history in Cotacachi, Ecuador.
